The Hayesville Yellow Jackets powered their way to a crucial 26-10 victory over the Andrews Wildcats on Friday, Nov. 1 in a league matchup held in Andrews, NC. The win marks a high point for Hayesville, advancing their record to 3-7 to the end the regular season.
First Quarter
The Wildcats struck first midway through the opening quarter when kicker Micah Gibson delivered a 31-yard field goal, putting Andrews up 3-0 with 6:23 left. However, Hayesville quickly responded. With just under three minutes remaining, Dawson Devane punched in a two-yard touchdown run to give the Yello Jackets a 6-3 edge, though the extra point attempt failed.
Second Quarter
Hayesville extended their lead just before halftime in an impressive two-minute drill. Quarterback Tate Roberts connected with Kendall Boyer on a 21-yard touchdown pass with only 44.8 seconds left in the half. Michael Mauney’s successful PAT pushed the Yellow Jackets' lead to 13-3 heading into the break.
Fourth Quarter
Andrews came out determined in the final quarter, closing the gap with 10:24 on the clock. Everett Tatham found Eli Aguilar in the end zone on a 9-yard touchdown pass, and Gibson’s extra point brought the Wildcats within three points, 13-10. But Hayesville quickly regained control. Just two minutes later, Trey Graves sprinted down the field for a 21-yard touchdown run, and Mauney’s extra point put the Yellow Jackets up 20-10. Graves sealed the game for Hayesville with his second touchdown, a two-yard run, with just 1:34 remaining. Although the PAT was unsuccessful, Hayesville’s lead was secure.
Hayesville now awaits playoff brackets and seedings from the NCHSAA on Nov.10.
