On Monday, Sept. 9th, Hayesville High School's two volleyball teams travelled to Sylva to face Smoky Mountain for non-conference action.

The varsity team came out swinging on the opponent's home floor, snatching a 1-0 lead early by winning set one 25-16. Set two was almost a carbon copy with the Lady Jackets zooming to a 25-17 victory to go up 2-0 and needing just one more set-win to take the match.

While sets one and two were easy ones for Hayesville, set three was a challenge. The Lady Mustangs were not going to go down easy and the home team put together their best set of the night. Fortunately for Jacket Nation, it wasn't good enough. The Lady Jackets held on for a 25-23 win to take the match 3-0.

In the JV contest, winning the first set is crucial as the teams play a best of three match. Lady Jacket squad grabbed the momentum early, winning the opening set 25-20.

Things kept going Hayesville's way as the Lady Jackets limited Smoky Mountain's success while putting points on their own side of the board. A 25-17 set-win gave Hayesville the 2-0 match sweep.

Hayesville will host Blue Ridge Early College in a varsity-only contest on Thursday, Sept. 12th at 5 p.m.
